FINAL DISTANCE

Hikaru Utada

The Story

A memory behind the music

When i first fell in love with this song I was living in my mom's spare room. I'd asked to move back in after living on Nick's couch for a month or two and during that time my mom had to rent my room out to some electrician dude. But she couldnt' say no to me so I ended up moving into the foster cat room and slept on a small futon. So I'd put my computer and video game system up in the living room and i'd download music like this. And i'd play my japanese role playing games. One of them had this song, Kingdom Hearts, and that's what made Utada Hikaru famous for a bit in the states. But I'd listen to it _all_ the time. I'd listen to it most when I felt i needed to be outside the house so i'd put it on my stero and i'd drive from Simi Valley to a record store in west hollywood that'd let you listen to CDs in advance before buying them. So i'd do exactly what I ended up doing at Tsutaya, listening to CDs, thinking about what to buy, usually buying nothing but sometimes buying something. And then sometimes looking at Manga, usually love stories, and then coming home on a 45 minute drive to read everything. That was all because I was missing something. I was missing someone to love. Much like most of the songs I used to listen to, at least ones that weren't there to help me slowly accept the way my family now looked, were always about finding someone to love. Finding someone I could love enough that i'd go as far as possible. Now I am finally there.
