The Story
A memory behind the music
I feel like this is one of the angriest songs I have in this playlist. Its not the most angsty song I used to listen to, but I wanted to keep it. I first heard about Eastern Youth because they did a compilation album with Cursive who did a compilation album with Bright Eyes because they were all somehow connected to each other. But this song, this song I got to see live in Los Angeles at some tiny Live House during my first or second year at UCLA. It was with a girl a worked with at an eye doctors office who I would briefly date and then stop dating. Her name was Maggie. She was kinda cool. Very much into the kind of music I was into. Was kind of into puns and awkward jokes. But I also feel like she was just kind of floating through life. She didn't have a really strong motivation for anything. But she was bold enough to very very awkwardly blurt out that she really liked me when it was just the two of us at the office. It was right before I was leaving for the night and about to spend a long weekend helping my friend Viet move up to Seattle. I honestly didn't know how to react to Maggie's confession. I just kind of froze. Because you know, i was an awkward guy as well. No one had done that to me. So when I finally got my sense together I called her and said we should try dating. And then it only lasted around a couple months. But at least right before that I got to see Eastern Youth.
