A memory behind the music
This was peek nerdcore. This was the band that Viet lived so much. It was a band that a lot of my senior high school friends loved. We'd talk about how cool Rivers Cuomo was even though the video for this song clearly framed him and the rest of the band as nerds. We thought we were nerds. But actually...in a lot of ways, we were the cool kids. We were the kids that went to punk rock shows every weekend. We were the kids that were sometimes putting on a punk rock performance. I was the guy that tried to have a whole bunch of friends stay the night in my living room after a bunch of friends performed at the nearby YMCA. The show was fun and very lively and everyone thought it'd be fun for a huge sleep over. But then my parents realized it wasn't just me and a bunch of guys sleeping on the floor. It was my friend and his girlfriend. It was a couple other guy friends. It was also my very emo friend Rachel and one of her best friends. This really tripped up my parents, seemed pretty sketch to them. So in a panic they called all the parents they could and everyone had to be picked up to go home. Rachel felt so betrayed by that. But that's the kind of cool kids we were.
